Last Thursday, I saw Jamie Foxx filming “Law Abiding Citizen” on 19th and Market. I watched three takes of a car chase along Market Street heading east towards Philadelphia City Hall.

Jamie Foxx was sitting in the passenger seat and Colm Meaney (AKA Chief O’Brien from Star Trek) was in the driver seat.

This was the first lacrosse game that I have seen since college when I used to watch the JHU Blue Jays play at Homewood.

"They got goal"

Theyre no way they can score now.

They is NO way they are going to score now! Why didn't we think of this before?!

Good game!

Awesome game!

This post is two weeks overdue…

What a spectacularly beautiful day to go apartment hunting! I began the afternoon by walking around Rittenhouse Square for a quick warm up lap. I then bounced over to 22nd St. and South St. From there, I just started heading east along South St on my way to Queen Village. I must say that Queen Village is a very nice Philly neighborhood. Possessing a mix of vibrancy and class, it felt very much like a blend of the Society Hill and South Street areas to its north.

There was no shortage of interesting locales in the area. I saw quite a few restaurants that I have heard of and I have always wanted to try: Bistrot La MinetteCrêperie Beau Monde, and Dmitri’s. [UPDATE: 2/15/2009 Dmitri's was good. It was a bit crowded and it filled up in a hurry, but the scallops and calamari were excellent.] I have been to Shubin Theatre on another occassion; it seems to be a good and cheap place for a comedy show. [UPDATE: 2/15/2009 Shubin has been a consistently good place for a laugh.]

I have decided that I would like to live here:

I also liked this place:

It would be nice if my new neighborhood had a dog park such as this:

Hopefully, I can find a new place before the end of April or else I will have to build my own…

My first App Store purchase Saturday, January 24, 2009

I have been looking for a decent “to-do list” application on the iPhone ever since I bought it August 2008. Here are the ones that I looked at:

Easytask Manager – nice and easy to use, but no means to backup other than using the paid desktop client or online service. I really don’t see the need to have my to do list stored on a vendor site. Why can’t they use Google or Yahoo Calendars? (Free + Desktop or service)

Remember the Milk – don’t be fooled; it is not free! You get a couple of days to try it out, but after the trial period ends, you’ll need to upgrade to the pro account. They charge $25 for the online service. (Free + service)

Touchtodo - looks good. It claims to sync up with Google Calendar, though I don’t know how well or if it is completely bidirectional. A new release is coming out soon with even better Google integration. $0.99 (normally $3+)

Toodedo – looks ok. syncs with online service ($3.99)

These applications were good but they either had no synchronization capability or they required a paid service and/or paid commercial application in order to synchronize. Cultured Code’s Things seemed to be the best overall, but $9.99 for the iPhone App and $49.95 for the Mac Desktop App was a little too steep for me. The Omni Group’s OmniFocus was also too much in both price and functionality for what I needed. So in the end, I went with Appigo’s Todo for $9.99, which was my first iTunes paid purchase. Like most of the aforemetioned task management applications, Todo works well with the GTD methodology. Its nicest feature was its the ability to synchronize with iCal’s to-do using Appigo Sync for free.

I went to World Cafe Live for the first time last Wednesday. Here’s the show info. Sondre Lerche was the headliner and Sylvie Lewis was the opening act, but she also sang two songs with Sondre. Both had accents. I believe Sondre is from Norway. Sondre used two out of the three guitars on stage. The blue guitar seemed to be his favorite. He played some great music on that blue guitar. Sylvie was a trooper because you can tell she wasn’t feeling all that well, but she performed nonetheless. She claimed her voice was not usually as sultry. The show was great.

The Pennsylvania Convention Center was packed with video game enthusiasts this weekend. It was my first Video Game Expo. Seeing Raccoon Mario and the Tetris block was the highlight of the convention for me. Was it worth the 1 hour waiting on line to get in and the $15 entrance fee? My sources say no. There were not enough free giveaways and they did not make good use of all the space that the convention center provides. (Only one main game room and two or three other smaller rooms!) On the upside, the Tetris L-block was hilarious — see for yourself in the video below.
